Diagnosis Per Year
Studies recently conducted in 2009 indicate that 713,220 women will be diagnosed with cancer this year. Think of it this way: Every 44 seconds - of every hour of every day - someone is told: "You have cancer." 27% (192,000) of these cases will be breast cancer.
Your Chances
During your lifetime, a woman's chances of getting cancer are 1 in 3 or a 33% risk.
Deaths Per Year ACS researchers estimate that there will be about 1,479,350 million new cancer cases and about 562,340 cancer deaths in 2009. For all cancers diagnosed from 1996-2004, the 5-year relative survival rate is 66%, up from 50% in 1975-1977. That increase reflects improvements in both early detection and treatment.
