In September 2005, I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer.
Owner Kevin Berry
Hearing the words, "you have cancer” changed my life. In that moment I became a statistic. I became one of the 192,000 women that are diagnosed each year with breast cancer. My mind raced with thoughts, “I can’t have cancer I’m a mom!”, “how did this happen?” and “will I live?”

Ironically, 4 years earlier, I had volunteered to work with female cancer patients with a program sponsored by the American Cancer Society called, “Look Good…Feel Better”. Serving for 4 years as a group leader with LGFB was rewarding and each session allowed me the opportunity to help women fighting cancer improve their quality of life while overcoming the appearance related sided effects of radiation and chemotherapy.

I often felt as if my surgeries, treatments and appointments were much like a marathon. However showing up each day for the race was often more than I felt I could endure. I began to feel sorry for myself, which led to the feelings of defeat and depression. The treatments and medications often made me tired and all of this combined took a toll on my body and my spirit.

I was invited to attend a LGFB session, I was very hesitant. I didn’t think there was anything I could gain from attending; after all I was a leader so I knew the program. However while I was there I saw the program with a new set of eyes. I learned the depth of the program, the real meaning. I discovered that this program goes far beyond beauty; I felt hope and knew there was a future worth living for.  "Look Good...Feel Better" is a makeover for the soul!
